Today was a day from hell; we lost our dear friend Greg Petraitis, known to radio listeners as GVac. Greg was selfless and lovable, he gladly gave of himself, and was never without his sense of humor and infectious laugh. One of the sweetest, nicest people on the planet. Thank you and goodbye, GVac, you were universally loved and our lives will never be the same without you.
If you’d like to share a memory or comment about Greg, please feel free to do so below. We will be collecting these and sharing them with his family.

This new technological world that we find ourselves in is a scary and wonderful thing. On one hand, there is more information available that you can shake a stick at, but on the other (which I'm most guilty of) is the access to pure buffoonery like stupid memes or endless Twitter/social media idiocy. I am glad, however, that it has led me to wonderful people that without it, I'd never have experienced. Greg was one such example. I constantly threatened to come to an ETN comedy show and tickle him just to hear that goofy laugh. That laugh filled so many hearts. I'm more than just a little embarrassed and ashamed that I never got to know Greg in person, and I'm incredibly jealous of those that had that opportunity. His genuine sense of humor and the easy way he fell into all our hearts is proof that we really did lose one of the best. If there is indeed a waiting room to the afterlife, Bowie, Prince, and Glen Frey will have excellent company with our beloved GVac!

I never got to meet Gvac but we would talk via Twitter frequently. Nicest guy ever... I'll miss him a lot. There aren't enough good people like him in the world.

I have been listening to Gvac since Ron and Fez. He was always had funny and thoughtful comments. Going to miss that guy. Who would have thought that he would just go, and be gone? That sucks. Rest in Peace, big fella.

So often the radio brings us joy and solace. GVAC was one of the shining examples of someone who reached people. I'm so sorry that he's gone. Please know how many people enjoyed his spirit. He will be sorely missed.

Knowing gvac for the past 15 years has been an honor. From the first time I met him and he yelled my name and hugged me like a bear I will never forget his voice saying my name. We had many nights talking late about life, love, music, comics, red wings. One of my favorite people in the entire world. When I was dumped by my gf of 5 years he was there to help me. Took me out for drinks and food and just wanted me to know things will get better. He did this everytime I was upset or sad. We didn't talk much when he moved only occasionally but I thought of him a lot and I was glad he found a family in tennessee. One of the last true genuine people left in the world. I'll never forget the day we were going to start a band with a keyboard and harmonica and a djembe drum. I wished we followed through with it.

I have been Gregs best friend for yrs. I was one of the guys in his last band. We had to reschedule a lot for your show. He really loved doing the show, and Dr. Steve meant a whole lot to greggy! It meant a lot to us that you were there for him on that tragic day. Greg was the best guy I've ever known! I miss him dearly. The world really lost someone great!

On behalf of the Gvac fans in the UK. I would like to say that in my chats with him on twitter and in emails , he was always a joy to talk to . Whenever I listened to wierd medicine he was the one who made me laugh the most . I'm not sure what it's going to be like without him on the show but that pales in comparison as to how all your lives will change . He was truly an original, a gentleman and a very funny guy , he will be missed by more people than he could possibly have imagined. Our best wishes and love go to all his friends and family .

I knew Gvac mostly from Weird Medicine; he always knew the exact time to jump in with a joke or comment if Dr. Steve was getting too technical. He was also the first Ron & Fez-related person to follow me back on Twitter; that was the first time I felt part of a community and not just a nameless listener.

I only knew of Gvac from Weird Medicine but I can tell with much conviction that he was a great person that will be sorely missed. He was very good at being funny on the show at any time and asking questions as a layperson so the listeners had an explanation of what Doctor Steve and Scott were discussing. I know he will be greatly missed by a ton of people including myself, even if I never met him. RIP Gvac!

When a person has the ability to make everyone they encounter feel special, it is them that is indeed special. My heart is broken and I never even met Greg, I can't imagine what his friends and family are going through. My thoughts are with you and I hope knowing how many people he touched is of some comfort. We were lucky to know you and we miss you already, buddy.

My heart goes out to Greg's family and those in his inner circle. I, like many who have shared a story, never met him face to face. We "met" after a rather embarrassing call into the Weird Medicine show. Immediately after that I felt honored he followed me on social media. He took time to get to know you and once he knew something about you he never forgot. Whether it was something to tease you about or if you had a problem, he took the time to make you feel special. I have never cried so much over someone I never met. I cannot fathom how his family feels. I know whenever I hear a cackling laugh, see a wood bee (his nemesis), or drink coffee from a mug with his cartoon face on it, I will smile and thank my lucky stars I got to interact with a beautiful soul.

I never got to meet GVac, but I listened to him on the radio for many many years. It was really sad to hear about his passing. He became apart of the show and our lives as much as anyone else on the show. Listening to a show for 3 hours a day and hearing from people like GVac on such a constant basis really makes them feel like friends you know. He was a great, funny guy that will be missed.

I never met Greg in person. I only knew him through the Weird Medicine show and on Twitter. I was fortunate enough to interact with him a lot on Twitter. Especially after I introduced him to CFL football a couple years ago. He seemed to embrace it and even chose my home team, Edmonton Eskimos, as his team to cheer for. And when they won the Grey Cup (the league championship) last season he instantly tweeted me with great enthusiasm and pride, lime he was a life long fan. I wish I could have known Greg in person. His laughter was infectious. He had a big heart and cared more about other than most people do about themselves. My heart was broken when I read the news of his passing. He will always have a unique place in my life and heart, even though he was just an online friend. Thank You, Greg! You will be missed. Thanks for the laughs.

I know most people writing her ears saying the same things, I just wanted to let you know how much I will miss him. I used to listen religiously to the shows and was bummed whenever he wasn't on one. Sadly, he won't be on anymore and it saddens me to think of that. He honestly felt like a friend yet I never met him. I'm so sorry and will honestly miss him, even though I never met him. 🙁

I have known GVac through various different radio shows. Opie & Anthony, Ron and Fez and Weird Medicine. The last 12 years of my life I've been aware of him and even more so with Weird Medicine. I talked to him on twitter as well. He was never anything but a lovable goof and I'll miss him dearly. Even though I never had the chance to meet him I am crushed. His family will be in my thoughts during this. RIP buddy.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his friends. We have listened to Weird Medicine for years, and he was really an integral part of the show. It was never as funny when he wasn't there. Now, it will never be the same. My husband thought it was incredibly wonderful when Greg retweeted something he posted, and then started following my husband on Twitter. He had a great sense of humor. We are really saddened by his passing. It feels like we lost a good friend. May peace be with you.

I was shicked this morning when I heard Ronny B dedicate the opening song to GVac! As you always said, Steve, he asked those questions that all us medical dummies were wanting answers to. He was a real friendly sounding guy. Sad that i never met him, but I felt that somehow I knew him. All my love to his family, and to you guys.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Gvac has touched so many people's lives. I didn't know him outside of r&f and weird medicine and his tweets that shared that special sense of humor that connects this little group. I think all of us were drawn to his goodness his light and I know his spirit will live on through the many people he has touched. I remember when we became friends on Facebook and I felt honored to be connected to an icon, a person I knew I hadn't met in real life but as ron said a good dude. We all need good dudes in our life. Here's to a really special one.

Greg and I never actually met in person, but that doesn't mean a thing in the "Internet world". He was such quick-witted funny, talented, and caring man. He touched many people's lives and we (his internet family" are mourning his loss as if our brother has passed away. His laugh... oh that cackle,it was annoying and infectious at the same time. We interacted nearly every day, if only to harass him for his vegan diet and laugh to ourselves at our computer screens. He is beloved by many... many more than even he could've known. Rest in peace GVAC (Greg) and wherever you are in hope there is a guitar, great Italian food, and

Very sad to hear about Greg aka GVac. It really is a weird thing when you love a radio show/shows, the fans almost become a weird family. I always loved his infectious laugh. and of course his hilarious tweets and calls into the Ron&fez show and Bennington, and also on Weird Medicine with Dr. Steve. He obviously was taken way too soon, and I hope we can figure out a way to prevent whatever happened. He seemed like a great dude, he was beloved by complete strangers, so I can only imagine how his family and friends feel. He will be missed.

Although I did not know Greg personally, his passing devastated me. Knowing him as a stand up guy, as others described him, he has been a part of my life for years on the air. I first heard him on Ron and Fez and more recently with Weird Medicine. I watched the live recordings with Dr. Steve and was able to put a face with the voice. Today I heard more stories about Greg and my suspicions are correct, he was a real stand up guy. Sorry for your loss.

GVac was one of my favorite members of the Weird Medicine team, and an all-around great guy. While we talked a few times over Twitter about meeting up one day for a jam session, I'll always regret not being able to. He's helped bring countless hours of entertainment, education, and happiness to hundreds of thousands of listeners, and he'll not soon be forgotten.

I sent Greg a video link to musician Ry Cooder: His reply was: "Ry is so awesome. Everyone close to me knows that I want "Theme From Alamo Bay" played at my funeral." My condolences to everyone. Please do with that info as you wish. You will be missed Greg.

To my buddy GVac, Even though I never had the honor of meeting you in person, I feel like I had known you my whole life. You being gone has left a GVac sized hole in my heart. But even though you are gone, it is everything that embodies you that will live on. I can only hope to reciprocate your kindness, your humor, and you warmth with the rest of the world. The last 24 hours have proven how much the world loved you, and that is a light that will never go out. Until we meet again. Your pal, -Mike (Koolaider)

We feel fortunate to have been able to spend a fun afternoon with GVac and the whole Weird Medicine crew. Such a likable guy from the very start and an immediate friend, unlike most people. Heaven is welcoming him with open arms and will be entertained by him and his musical talents for eternity. Be well, friend.

I did not know GVac personally, but I knew of him on the air, and he followed us on Twitter after we made the GailAnn sandwich. I thought it was so cool that he was willing to check us out, and thought we were cool, and decided to follow us. We are just a little sandwich shop trying to make it in NYC, and a nice guy in Tennessee thought we were pretty cool. I'm sorry for your loss. He seemed to be the real deal based on what I've heard on the radio, and the stories told today. Best Wishes Mayhem & Stout

Gvac, you were one of a kind. Always sweet, always snarky, always positive. You really made me laugh. You made me appreciate things more. Life, music, art.. You were an incredible guy and you will be missed. Sometimes when I ponder life and think about what I'll leave behind, I get nervous that I won't have made an impact on anyone or anything. Wherever you are I hope you see that you made your mark. You were here and you made the most of it and people saw you. Love you buddy, rest easy.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Greg in person, but from the first time I ever heard him call in to the Ron & Fez show over 10 years ago, he never failed to make me smile. When I first joined Twitter, he was one of the first people I followed, and he followed me right back. Even he followed and was followed by thousands of people, he always took the time to respond to everyone, and always with that unique blend of kindness and humor. When my father passed away last November, he reached out to me with sympathy and compassion. His words helped ease my grief and gave me some added strength to get through a terrible time. It's difficult to fully convey oneself on any social media site, but somehow he managed to. He impacted a lot of people in a positive way and will be truly missed. To all family and friends who read this, I know there are just no words to make the pain of loss go away, but please take comfort in knowing how much Greg was loved by so many. May you all find peace.

I first met Gvac at one of many ronfez.net bar crawls. After briefly introducing myself with my message board handle (douchebagSean) he simply stated what a nice guy I was, and that he loved that handle. I was lucky enough to meet him a few more times and thoroughly enjoyed his spots on the many shows that he appeared on. Words cannot express how sad and utterly devastated I am at hearing of his passing. My wife and I send our heartfelt condolences to Gvacs family and friends. I will sorely and deeply miss you my friend and look forward to hearing that laugh again someday. Godspeed old buddy and prayers to all you touched.
