“I Pee and My C*ck’s on Fire” Billy Joel Parody

For our 100th show, Brother Joe Cumia (Joseph Cumia on YouTube and @JosephCumia on Twitter) and I cooked up this song parody. Well, let’s be clear, I had the idea to do a song and Brother Joe did all the heavy lifting. My main contribution was the idea to do a song about VD and have the chorus say something like “My Stupid C*ck’s on Fire”. A week later, Joe sent me the completed song with spaces for me to insert some audio from our listeners.

The moral to the story of this song is to be responsible and practice safe sex. Enjoy!

your pal,

Steve

Ask A Prostitute Theme

Filed under: Music — dr steve @ 4:59 pm

People have been asking me for the “Ask A Prostitute” theme music. It’s basically an AppleLoop jingle with a vocoder saying “ASK A PROSTITUTE” over and over. If you make it into a ringtone, please let me know how that goes over at work.

Continue to Help A Listener with Terminal Cancer

Filed under: Steve's Blog — dr steve @ 4:56 pm

We have a listener who has been battling terminal bladder cancer since 2011. He’s had to try to continue to work just to keep the lights on despite horrific intractable pain, but hasn’t had a full time job since being laid off in 2012. The last tweet I got from him said “i’m already $100 away from being homeless. At this point I long for the relief that death will bring.”

He has no family who can help him, and he’s alone, suffering in a cold house he may be evicted from soon due to back taxes. He has about 30 days of insulin left, which will cost him almost $700 to refill.

I’ve asked him to let us help him for some time now, and he just today said he’d accept the kindness of strangers.

Please donate below, $5, $10, $100, whatever you can afford; 100% will go to RexDart who is known to people on the Interrobang website and on twitter as @rexdart936.

Let’s see what we can do as a group to keep the lights on and some heat going so our friend can live out his days in peace.

your friend,

Steve

UPDATE 1/8/14:  We raised $300 the first day;  thank you to all our listeners who contributed!  This will really help.

UPDATE 1/9/14: RexDart was able to square with the electric company and buy some propane.  We raised another $400 today so far and this has been forwarded directly to him as well.   THANK YOU ALL for your help for a friend in need.

UPDATE 3/12/14: We finally got hospice in the home and a social worker is seeing what help is available. WM listeners have donated over $2000 to helping RexDart stay in his home. He wants you all to know he appreciates “this help more than you can imagine.” Y’all rule.

Weird Medicine Does Riotcast

Filed under: Steve's Blog — dr steve @ 12:07 pm

Last night we recorded a “very special” Weird Medicine from the RiotCast studio above the Comedy Cellar in the West Village. Thanks to the owner, Noam Dworman for giving us this incredible space to record! Rob Sprance, the co-owner of The Riotcast Network was there and made sure all the technical details were perfect as well as lending his special brand of micrognathic humor to the conversation.

This was a roundtable discussion with guests from RiotCast and XM103. The guest list included the delightful Kristin Montella from “Live From the Table”, “News Whore” Mandy Stadtmiller from XOJANE.COM,

Dan Naturman also from Live From the Table and the one person I know who should be 10x more famous than he is. The panel was complete with the addition of the “Hardest Working Man in Radio”,  Mr Sam Roberts.

Topics included the differences in male-female approaches to intersex friendship, emetophobia (fear of puking), ObamaCare, male and female nocturnal emissions (wet dreams), and how many times a week a certain radio host has to “get the poison out”.

This show will air on the RiotCast Network on 11-19-13.  “Your old pal”TM  Dr Steve will also appear on “The Hole” as well as Robert Kelly’s YKWD Podcast this week.  Watch for some insertion-despite-the-lawyers on SiriusXM’s Opie and Anthony show on Friday 11-15-13 at around 8-9am.

An Open Letter to Dr. Steve

I got a note from a listener about his mom and her nightmarish foray into the medical system.  She had a mass that was removed and post surgery retained a lot of fluid (it’s called “third spacing“, feel free to Google it). Anyway, she was getting a bit of the ol’ “run around”, likely due to being told different things by different practitioners on her case (and there were many).  Anyway, I gave her and her son some information and support and moved on.   A week later I got this letter.  Sometimes we don’t know the impact we’re having on people.

I post this here only as a reminder to my employer that despite all the F-bombs and awful dick jokes and testicle-cheese questions, we actually sometimes do some good on this show.

An open letter to Dr. Steve,

It is with a very grateful heart that I write to thank you for all of your help. You have been a shining beacon throughout this entire process. Your insights, your knowledge, but mostly importantly your dedication to helping others has helped us all so very much. Thank you for helping my son, Benjamin, in the process of helping me.

Among the many lessons, gifts so to speak, in this journey has been: to try to discern truth, to take responsibility for one’s own treatment, to stand up for oneself, to be articulate and to question. It became evident near the end of my ordeal that to express compassion rather than condemnation and to give of oneself to others who struggle was an important stop on this trip. A smile and a laugh go a long way on a cancer floor of women battling to live. The number one lesson that I see is to let your light shine, share your gifts, give a hug, provide a laugh. Do it every moment of every day. Tell the truth as you see it. Listen for truth in all that you hear. Value your friends and family beyond anything that you can imagine. Appreciate every moment and always move forward.

Today came the good news that all of the biopsies were benign. But I was very sick last week, and we could have permanently damaged my kidneys, When asked about this, my surgeon today told me that nothing different could have been done. I knew that was not true. When he said that he was the doctor, how dare I question his judgement, I did not rise to the argument. I left that room at peace. I had spoken my truth, and I would live when others would not.

So there we are. The trip that started with lower abdominal pain late last winter is finally over. In the process, we have gotten to know you, Dr. Steve, and your wonderful work. This trip into the world of high-tech surgery and world-class hospitals was over. We will wait for the new one to begin. Perhaps it will be to the little town of Gallatin, Tennessee, to see one incredible man: Dr. Steve.

With fond best wishes and our forever thanks,

Anne M

Weird Medicine Music Beds

Some people have asked about the music beds we use for ads and stuff. I plan to post all of the original audio here for people who might want it (but why would you? It’s AWFUL!)

For now, here is the new music bed for next week’s recording session; we’ll use it for AMAZON, Gamefly, and Tweaked Audio (offer code: FLUID). Feel free to make a ringtone out of it if you’re so inclined. And lay off my jazz improv skillz…I STINK and I’m well aware of it, thank you very much.

I plan on uploading a complilation of all of Trevor W’s works, as well as some other goodies. These will be here only, not on the Riotcast or iTunes websites.

I used to use a Korg M1R for recording, but I now use GarageBand or LogicProX for everything. Matter of fact, I sold my synthesizers and processing units; they’re redundant in this day and age, at least for the crappy work that I do.

The Blackberry Boys By Richard McNail Jr

Filed under: Steve's Blog — dr steve @ 5:38 pm

Ok, this guy called our show (you’ll hear it 6/16/13) to plug his book by asking a question about anxiety. Of course, it was tongue in cheek and we get the joke, but the guy doesn’t have any comments or reviews on his Amazon page so I thought it would be fun if our listeners left a few “words of encouragement” and “serious questions” for him. The first sentence of the book says “There is no evidence of reality among this story…” so you know it has to be great!

Here’s the link!

Enjoy!

Avian Influenza A (H7N9) Virus

Filed under: H1N1 (Swine) Flu,H7N9 Avian Influenza — dr steve @ 1:46 pm

[This website is usually about “shits ‘n’ giggles” (literally, sometimes) but this is an important advisory from the CDC.  Things to do:

  • DON’T PANIC
  • Always wash your stupid hands before eating or after touching something nasty (including human hands)
  • DON’T PANIC
  • Don’t watch “Contagion” anytime soon

Help is on the way; these viruses are susceptible to drugs we already have (e.g., Tamiflu) and a vaccine is in the works for this crappy virus.  Below is the advisory from the CDC.]

On April 1, 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) first reported 3 human infections with a new influenza A (H7N9) virus in China. Additional cases have been reported since.

At this time, no cases of H7N9 outside of China have been reported. The new H7N9 virus has not been detected in people or birds in the United States.

Most reported cases have severe respiratory illness and, in some cases, have died. According to WHO, no person-to-person spread of the H7N9 virus has been found at this time, and the reported cases are not linked to each other. An investigation by Chinese health authorities is ongoing to find out the source of these infections and detect any more cases.

This new H7N9 virus is an avian (bird) influenza (flu) virus. Human infections with avian influenza (AI, or “bird flu”) are rare but have occurred in the past, most commonly after exposure to infected poultry. However, this is the first time that this bird flu subtype (H7N9) has been found in people. This virus is very different from other H7N9 viruses previously found in birds.

This is a “novel” (non-human) virus and therefore has the potential to cause a pandemic if it were to change to become easily and sustainably spread from person-to-person. So far, this virus has not been determined to have that capability. However, influenza viruses constantly change and it’s possible this virus could gain that ability. CDC takes routine preparedness actions whenever a new virus with pandemic potential is identified, including developing a candidate vaccine virus to make a vaccine if it were to be needed. There is no licensed H7 vaccine available at this time.

CDC is following this situation closely and coordinating with domestic and international partners. In addition, CDC is:

  • Issuing guidance to U.S. clinicians and public health departments (http://emergency.cdc.gov/HAN/han00344.asp) on how to test for this virus.
  • Modifying test kits so that this specific virus can be easily and accurately identified
  • Reviewing genetic sequences of the virus to learn more about it
  • Gathering more information to make a more extensive assessment of the public health risk posed by this virus.

The sequences of the first three viruses were posted to GISAID (http://platform.gisaid.org/epi3/frontend#4195bc)  by China and are publicly available.  Some of the genetic changes have been associated with increased transmissibility of other AI viruses to mammals based on animal studies involving ferrets in the past. So far, all three viruses seem to be susceptible to the influenza antiviral drugs oseltamivir and zanamivir, but they are resistant to the adamantanes.

This is an evolving situation and there is still much to learn. CDC will provide updated information as it becomes available.  General information about avian influenza viruses and how they spread is available at Avian Influenza A Virus Infections in Humans (/flu/avianflu/avian-in-humans.htm) .
