August 5 2011 Podcast

This was our second attempt at a LIVE show from the Weird Medicine studios and our first try with our own Ustream channel. Thanks to Anthony Cumia’s retweet on twitter, we set all kinds of records for listeners this night…a feat we’ll not repeat soon (unless we can convince Ant to retweet us again when we’re on).

The weird thing about this is that I was actually nervous going into this.  Knowing that there are real, live people listening and wanting to interact with us is way different than answering voicemails and doing a show to 4 people in the studio.  That someone will actually listen later to the show seems almost theoretical.  Doing it live is a different beast, but it is very exciting and extremely fun.

We’re ironing out the kinks…we’ll get better at this whole live podcast thing, I promise.

Steve

Weird Medicine Behind the Scenes Live show

After we did the 30 minute podcast, the Ustream listeners wanted to get involved so we experimented with taking some LIVE calls. It actually went better than I thought and we talked about gout and some other stuff and even got a call from Lady Trucker (who stumped us).

WE WILL GET BETTER AT THIS. The technology for taking live calls and streaming live isn’t new, but it’s new to us. We had a blast interacting with our friends online, though, and will do a lot more of this as time goes on.

So glitches and all, this is the first Live Weird Medicine from the Weird Medicine studios in downtown weirdmedicineville.

Trevor W from Canada: “The Dr Steve AHHHHHH Song”

It is well known that I am hobbled by horrid vocal crutches. These came on late in life when I decided that I couldn’t utter something unless I “knew” it was “correct” (it’s a form of OCD) and my dumb brain is constantly searching for words that ensure that I’m not making statements beyond my knowledge. While my brain is frantically searching for the “right” words, my stupid mouth just opens up and “ahhhhhh” comes out along with “so anyway” and a few other annoying nuggets.

I’m pretty sure Trevor W got this from ONE show, and probably ONE answer to ONE question. It’s really quite embarrassing, but the boyz in studio got a kick out of making fun of me for a change. Now you can, too, thanks to the magic of feedburner and iTunes!

Enjoy!

Steve

New Shows, New Addendum, Medical Mythbusters, other crap

It’s been a long time since I posted a Weird Medicine Addendum. For awhile, we were recording them before the XM/Sirius shows and we were finding that a lot of energy that went into the addendum took away from the “official” show. So we just quit doing them for awhile. We had so much fun recording the last two Weird Medicine shows that we had a lot of energy left to do more so we sat back down and did this addendum. There is all-new material here…none of it (that I recall) was done on the shows that aired.

Please welcome our new friend, Liquorstore Chad, who discussed Adult Nursing Relationships and Adult Breast Feeding on the XM show that will air June 12, 2010. He used to have a music business, where he went by the name “DJ ChadCo” so you know he has to be good.

Very exciting news is coming regarding the Midnight weekend slot…all I can tell you is there will be no more replays at Midnight unless it’s a holiday, and maybe not even then. Stay tuned.

Dr Steve

New Weird Medicine Shows March 20, 27, 2010

Check out the Weird Medicine Addendum, powered by Arrogant Bastard Ale.

Ok, we gotta stop drinking while we’re doing the show.  Jefferson the Lawyer gave some really BAD medical advice, PA John gave some really BAD legal advice, Double Vasectomy Todd gave us all a BAD virus being cooped up in the studio with him, and I got totally flustered when John and Jeff started laughing hysterically off mic at some private joke.  Then I apparently posted this to our RSS feed and don’t even remember doing it. 🙂

Topics over the next few weeks include:

1) Breast Milk Flan
2) Assorted rectal bleeding questions
3) Assorted “My X smells like Y” questions
4) Herpes, herpes, herpes
5) Listen to PA John, DRUNK ON ONE BEER

We’re giving away some Weird Medicine merchandise!  Listen to the XM/Sirius shows for details!  Be the first to answer the stumper and a Weird Medicine beer stein is yours.

Dr Steve

Weird Medicine Addendum 1/26/10

The guy who injected silicone into his penis is the subject (among other things) of this “Weird Medicine Addendum”.  If you haven’t seen the video, don’t miss it.  It’s not only “Not Safe For Work”, it’s not safe for anything.  This guy is a nut, but he’s happy, so who are we to criticize him? 20 lbs of silicone later, his glans looks like a giant bullfrog’s mouth and he can’t sit on the pot without dipping his junk into the water.   Fantastic then.

Don’t forget the Weird Medicine Merchandise Mart, where you can get that “I heart rimjobs” tee shirt for your dog that you’ve always wanted.

We recorded 2 new shows for air this weekend and next;  we covered a lot of ground and I think the shows are strong.  Follow @todd1017 during showtime 12MN Eastern on Twitter for updates and free merchandise!

Sept 19 2009 Weird Medicine Show

I had just had my flu shot, and I was in a generally bad mood.  When the show was over I thought we (I) had shit the bed, BAD.   In the end I listened to it Live on the Air and it wasn’t half bad!  Actually it has some great stuff on it.

We’re just gearing up for the Nov6 O&A show, and the Nov 7th 3 hour weird medicine.   We have a great rundown already.   Just looking for good bumper music;  anyone know the band “Fuck the Facts”?   I’d love to have them in studio “unplugged”.

If we can do the bit we have planned on O*A it may make O&A history.

Stay tuned.  Check out http://www.cafepress.com/weirdmedicine

Topics:  Semenya: male or female ?; Boxer drinks his own piss (AND LOSES); a trucker bathroom tricks followup by Barry the Blade; a bunch of other crap too.
Hope you like it!

New Show Saturday and Sunday Night 11:59pm Sept 19, 20

Filed under: Podcast,Steve's Blog — dr steve @ 10:42 pm

We did a new show for this weekend; after doing the 3 hour turdtacular you’d think doing an hour would be a breeze. However, I just had my flu shot and my damn allergies are killing me and Jefferson has Whooping Cough (I kid you not) and I was just totally out of sorts. Matter of fact, don’t even listen to it, I’m sure it’s that bad.

Next time, though, NOTHING but voicemails; we have a million of ’em to cover and I promise it’ll be a better show.

I got a tweet from a very nice listener who told me the RSS feed only showed the Montel Audio and not the 3 hour show audio, so I’m reposting it here. I really need to take 30 minutes and edit out the commercials and stuff. I may get to that this weekend.

Preview of this week’s show: only 1 feces question! Hermaphrodites in athletics, Cellphone Brain Cancer Scares, Boxers drinking their own urine, nonspecific urethritis, and Barry the Blade explains the “Trucker Juice Can”

Dr Steve on Montel (and the 3 hour turd-fest audio)

Well, the 3 hour Weird Medicine on the SNV is complete and the feedback was pretty good.   Listening to it, I think the last 2/3rds was better than the first 1/3rd.  We enjoyed doing it, and it was great practice for the Nov 7th LIVE show, and for the Nashville shows that are yet to come (also LIVE).   Who knew Lady Trucker’s doodies would make her a star?  (BTW, you can follow her on Twitter…she’s awful, and that’s why I love her.)

Also, to show how incestuous this business is, I got a call from Mike Opelka, AKA “STUNTBRAIN” from the old O&A CBS show.  He’s now, among other things, working with Montel Williams on his Air America thing and they needed a doctor “stat” to talk about the Tamiflu resistant H1N1 outbreak in North Carolina.   While I’m on hold after the first break, a voice comes on the line and says to me: “PLUG WHORE!”  Turns out it was Jivin from the CT and Jivin show, who we thoroughly dissed on our show (but with love, we kid, we kid).

So enjoy, both chunks of audio are herein presented for your entertainment and/or derision. Well, the 3 hour show is in the next post for the RSS feed, but anyway…

August 22 (and 29) 2009 Weird Medicine

Filed under: Podcast — dr steve @ 10:35 pm

The second in the “all voicemail” shows;  this one features four adults arguing about who passed gas in the first minute of the show.   How old are we?  “I didn’t do it!” “Whoever smelt it dealt it…”  “Whoever shit it, did it…”  whatever.  Grown men.   There’s nothing funnier than farts, though, so this show started off auspiciously.

Topics we covered:

Flatus and its effects on adults (no difference from 6 year olds)
the history of the barber pole
the next LIVE weird medicine (we said oct 24, but it’s really Nov 7th)
coprophilia (cleveland steamers! yay! and Brooklyn Blowhard)
epididymitis
why condoms stink
lap band for obesity
low testosterone levels (hypogonadism)
